Solid Waste Collection
SOLID WASTE (GARBAGE) COLLECTION:
- Garbage is collected twice (2) per week. Refer to the solid waste map on this document for your service day.
- Do not place your solid waste out for collection more than 48 hours in advance of your pick-up date.
- Garbage must be placed curbside before 7:00 AM.
- After collection, all empty containers must be removed from the swale before the next day.
- All garbage, including small or loose items, must be placed in tied plastic garbage bags and contained in a garbage can.
- Garbage cans and bags must weigh less than 50 pounds each.
- Garbage cans must:
- Be 40-gallon size or smaller
- Have handles and a lid
- Be capable of holding the items placed in them.
- Items in cans should not exceed the height of the can rim.
- Hypodermic needles, syringes, and other similar materials must be sealed in a hard plastic container.
- Loose items will not be collected
- Horse manure will not be collected
- Paper bags, cardboard boxes, recycling bins, garbage cans larger than 40-gallon size, and oil drums cannot be used as garbage containers.
- No collection under hurricane warnings.
CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS AND
LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE PROVIDERS:
- All construction contractors and landscapers must dispose of all debris generated by their work per Town Ordinance 2006-20.
- Homeowners are held responsible for ensuring that such service providers remove any debris generated by their service or the homeowner will be charged for the removal of any debris left by such service providers. You may contact (954) 974-7500, option #3, to make arrangements for a quote, payment, and collection.
ITEMS THAT WILL NOT BE TAKEN:

Hazardous or Exempt Waste - e.g.: Motor oils, paint, batteries, pesticides, biological sludge, auto or boat parts, and horse manure

Construction, remodeling, and demolition debris

Material generated from land clearing, land
development, or hurricane storm debris

Automotive bodies, engines, transmissions, batteries, large truck tires, automobile tires, and other automotive and marine parts.
ENFORCEMENT:
ANY SOLID WASTE OR BULK WASTE THAT IS INAPPROPRIATE, CO-MINGLED, EXCEEDS THE TWELVE (12) CUBIC YARDS COMBINED MAXIMUM OR PLACED OUT ANY EARLIER THAN 48 HOURS BEFORE THE COLLECTION DAY, IS A CODE VIOLATION AND WILL BE TAGGED 'NON-CONFORMING,'AT WHICH TIME, COULD RESULT IN FINES OF UP TO $500.00 PER DAY (PLUS AN ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE CODE HEARING FEE OF UP TO $150.00) IMPOSED BY THE TOWN'S CODE COMPLIANCE OFFICE.
Waste Management has been designated as the exclusive hauler for the Town of Southwest Ranches. To receive a special pickup contact Waste Management; COD and credit cards are accepted.
